A Teacher Trusted Retirement Planning Wealth Management

October 12, 2022

Life is difficult to navigate without a plan. As a wealth management company with over 30 years of experience, we here at Vector understand the importance of a strong planning process. While investing heavily in the youth of America, our educators must not forget to invest in themselves and their future. With such busy schedules , it can be challenging for teachers to prepare for financial obstacles and to set them up for stability in the future. Vector is a teacher’s trusted retirement planning and wealth management advisor. Interested in learning more on how we can help you better prepare for financial stability? Let’s dive in!

Teacher’s Salary

Teachers take on one of the most important tasks for our coming generation educating our youth. However, many teachers are underpaid in the U.S. A study conducted by the National Center of Education Statistics (NCES) found that a significant number of teachers had to supplement their income with a second job. Without a consistent income for a few months out of the year, the summer season can be difficult to navigate for teachers. In the absence of proper planning, these masters-educated individuals often pick up side jobs like DoorDash or Etsy shops just to make ends meet. While struggling to pay bills when actively within your profession, retirement planning seems extremely daunting for teachers.

When preparing for retirement, most teachers participate in defined-benefit pension plans. These pension plans are set in place to supplement teachers with a reliable income for the rest of their lives. Teacher pensions are calculated based on a teacher’s final salary and years of teaching experience. However, if a teacher decides to retire before 20 years, their plan offers little to no retirement savings. With such a low pay grade and a limited teacher retirement system, it can be difficult for teachers to effectively budget and successfully plan for the future.

Why Retirement Planning Is Important

While being so stuck in planning for the now, it can be stressful to plan for “life after work.” We may ask ourselves the always circulating questions like what will retirement look like? Are we spending too much? How frequently should we be saving? Could we run out of money in retirement? There’s so much to stress over when asking ourselves questions we don’t know the answers to. Vector can help answer these questions to avoid the stress and chaos that comes with the unknowns of the retirement process.

For our clients, retirement planning doesn’t start at retirement. It starts much earlier!
